Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange completed its transformation from transportation hub to comprehensive lifestyle destination by adding three floors of retail shops, restaurants, and entertainment facilities above the bus terminal.

Terminal Manager Engineer Rosa Santos conducted tours of the expanded facility, showcasing how travelers can shop, dine, and attend movies while waiting for buses or during layovers. “We realized people spend significant time in transportation hubs. Why not make that time productive and enjoyable?” she explained while demonstrating the escalator connection between bus platforms and shopping floors.
The integrated complex features brands typically found in premium malls, including clothing stores, electronics shops, and full-service restaurants. Bus passengers can check departure times via mobile apps while shopping, with notifications sent when their buses arrive at designated platforms.
Reimagining Transit Infrastructure
Transportation economics expert Dr. Carmen Reyes praised the integration model: “This transforms transportation infrastructure from necessary inconvenience to destination experience. Passengers can accomplish multiple tasks during travel, making bus travel more efficient and appealing.”
Amenities include luggage storage services allowing passengers to shop hands-free, travel insurance kiosks, and postal services for sending purchases home. The complex effectively functions as both transportation hub and regional shopping center.
Frequent traveler Jennifer Cruz described the improved experience: “I used to dread spending hours at bus terminals. Now I look forward to travel days because I can shop, eat well, and even watch movies while waiting. The terminal visit became the highlight of my trip rather than just transportation necessity.”
The success has inspired similar transportation-retail integration projects at other major terminals throughout the Philippines, potentially revolutionizing how Filipinos experience inter-city travel.
Revenue data shows retail sales now generate more income than transportation fees, making the terminal a profitable commercial enterprise rather than a government-subsidized public service.
