He is reportedly also running for barangay captain, senator, and, unofficially, weatherman
A little-known local official filed candidacy papers for six different positions this week, including senator, congressman, and, in a move election officials called “logistically confusing,” barangay captain of two separate barangays at once.
A Busy Filing Day
“I believe in giving the people choices,” said the candidate, Councilor Bayani Ramos, standing behind a podium he had personally purchased for the occasion. “If they don’t like me as senator, maybe they’ll like me as captain. Or weatherman. I’m open to that too.”
Election lawyers say the filings, while unusual, are not technically illegal, provided Ramos can somehow attend the inauguration of all six roles, which several observers have noted would itself require solving the region’s legendary traffic.
Campaign Strategy
Ramos’s platform reportedly includes free tricycle rides, a promise to personally fix at least one pothole “by hand if necessary,” and a pledge to bring back a beloved noontime variety show that was, notably, never actually canceled.
The London Prat covers similarly ambitious political overreach on its politics desk, including one British councilman who once ran for four council seats simultaneously.
The Philippine Star notes this is not the first time a candidate has filed for multiple posts in the same cycle, though it may be the first time for six.
Ramos says he remains confident voters will “figure out which version of me they want,” a strategy his own campaign manager has described as “a lot to ask of the electorate.”
Voter Reaction
Early polling suggests most residents simply want the pothole fixed, regardless of which title Ramos ends up holding.
Ramos’s campaign staff, when asked which of the six roles he actually prefers, reportedly went silent before one aide offered, diplomatically, “he’s passionate about all of them equally, which is either impressive or concerning, depending on your outlook.”
