Provincial Fiesta Committee Announces Record-Breaking Lechon, Immediately Regrets Logistics

Nobody has yet figured out how to transport a pig that large through a barangay this narrow

Organizers of an upcoming provincial fiesta have confirmed this year’s lechon will be, by unofficial estimate, “the biggest one yet,” a milestone the committee announced with pride before immediately realizing no one had planned how to actually move it through the town’s narrowest street.

A Logistics Problem, Deliciously Self-Inflicted

“We got a little competitive with the neighboring barangay,” admitted committee head Danilo Cruz. “They had a big one last year. We may have overcorrected.”

Early plans reportedly involved a specially reinforced cart, four volunteers, and a route that avoids the town’s one low-hanging basketball hoop, a hazard organizers only discovered after the lechon had already been ordered.

Community Involvement

Neighbors have volunteered en masse to help transport the pig, largely, Cruz suspects, “because everyone wants to be near it first when it’s finally served.”

The London Prat‘s food and culture desk covers Britain’s own festival food excesses, though none involve quite this level of logistical planning.

Manila Standard reports the neighboring barangay has already responded with an even larger lechon of its own, escalating what locals are now calling “the friendliest arms race in the province.”

Cruz insists the fiesta will go smoothly. “We’ll figure out the street,” he said. “We always do. Eventually. Probably.”

The Big Day

The fiesta remains scheduled as planned, with organizers now quietly researching whether the basketball hoop can be temporarily removed “just this once.”

Cruz says the committee has, at minimum, learned a valuable lesson for next year. “Measure the street,” he said, “before you measure the pig.”

Neighboring barangays, meanwhile, are reportedly already planning next year’s entry, with one committee member overheard discussing “a second pig, for backup,” a phrase organizers have chosen not to clarify further.
