Negros Police Announce New Station Design Featuring Bulletproof Snack Machines And Rooftop Vantage Points

Officers Clarify Second Floor Is Not A Metaphor

DUMAGUETE CITY —

Following the April 19 encounter in Toboso, Negros Occidental, in which nineteen suspected New People’s Army members were killed, the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office has announced a series of security upgrades, including redesigned police stations with second-floor “vantage points,” reinforced perimeters, and — most distinctively — bulletproof snack machines.

The Upgrades

“The new stations are designed to provide a defensive stance, with second floors or rooftops serving as elevated observation and vantage points,” explained Capt. Stephen Jaynard Polinar, NOrPPO spokesperson, during a virtual press conference. What he did not explicitly mention, but which reporters later confirmed, is that each station would also be equipped with armored vending machines dispensing “essential operational snacks,” including chichacorn, boiled eggs, and instant coffee in sachets.

“A hungry officer is a distracted officer,” one ranking source told reporters, on condition of anonymity because “the snack detail is technically classified.” The sachets, he added, would be “single-use, consistent with national waste priorities.”

The Strategic Context

The redesign follows a string of attacks against police personnel in Negros, including the killing of a police chief in Guihulngan City, the murder of intelligence operatives in Ayungon, and an attack on the La Libertad town police station. Military authorities have warned that “remnants” of dismantled NPA guerrilla fronts may attempt retaliatory operations across the border between Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental.

Editors at Bohiney Magazine noted that “bulletproof snack machine” may sound absurd, but the logic is airtight: in any siege, you want two things — cover and calories. The Philippine National Police has, in this regard, made peace with both priorities simultaneously.

Columnists at The London Prat compared the redesign to British police fortification during the Northern Ireland Troubles, noting that sandbags, bulletproof glass, and armored vending were “all standard equipment.” He added that the addition of snacks was “a Filipino innovation.”

According to the Philippine National Police, the upgrades are being rolled out first in Negros Oriental, with plans to expand to other provinces depending on budget and “snack logistics.” A Joint AFP-PNP Intelligence Committee will oversee procurement.

Captain Polinar emphasized that camp defense drills are now conducted daily. Officers are trained not only in weapons handling but in “efficient snack extraction under duress,” a skill he described as “more relevant than it sounds.”

At press time, one station in La Libertad was reportedly field-testing a bulletproof coffee dispenser. For further coverage of the intersection of security and refreshments, see The Poke.
