Jollibee Foods Corporation broke ground Monday on its forty-seventh branch in Barangay Holy Rosario, Quezon City, a 1.2-square-kilometer residential enclave that food analysts describe as “aggressively saturated.” The new branch, located eleven meters from an existing Jollibee and directly across from a third, will feature the chain’s newest concept format: Jollibee Artisanal, which is identical to regular Jollibee but has exposed brick and costs twelve pesos more. “We go where Filipinos are,” said JFC spokesperson Monica Reyes-Santos, who spoke over the construction noise of what she confirmed was also a Jollibee being built behind her. Barangay Captain Danilo Magbanua accepted the ceremonial shovel and noted that the seven existing Jollibees in his barangay employed over 200 local residents. Residents have adapted creatively. Nanay Esper, 68, uses a different Jollibee each day of the week and describes it as “like having seven living rooms, but louder.” Her neighbor Kyle, 24, has mapped the branches by wi-fi strength and rotates based on deadline proximity. One city planning official, who asked not to be named because he also works as a Jollibee delivery rider on weekends, said the zone “could use more diversity.” At press time, a permit had been filed for a Chowking three doors down, which locals noted was also owned by Jollibee Foods Corporation.
